I couldn’t wait until 3.00 O’Clock today to try out the D4, so when a rare thing for Ballyclare happened ( Sunshine, i believe it’s called !) i interrupted my boys playing basketball in our back garden.

Look how happy Kyle is ! There’s nothing a teenager loves more than there dad with a new toy stopping their game.

Unlike Cameron, who took posing to a whole new level.

These are all shot as is from the camera, i’m still tweaking some of the settings to get it the way i like it.

I had a comment last night about me being able to throw money around, well, these two pictures were taken with my home made Beauty dish !

I made it with a lamp shade and drilled out the wholes to allow my flash to fit in, total cost £38.55

here is a few iphone shots of how it looks

I picked up my Nikon D4 today, and according to Nikon Professional services i got the first one in Ireland ! Thanks to Calumet in Belfast and Angus Bicker the Manager, and of course NPS for all their help.

I got it home, had to head straight out to work, and there was no charge in the battery, so i have to wait until the morning to actually try the camera, it’s going to be like Christmas eve all over again, up early and straight into tweaking this camera the way i want it.

It was good enough to get the camera today but Nikon have a surprise for anyone waiting on one of these cameras, and that is they have packaged in a 16GB Sony QXD card and a Sony QXD USB 3.0 card Reader, there’s a sticker on the top of the box .

Using the new cards- XQD compatible high-end DSLR  users can capture up to approximately 100 frames in RAW format*3 in continuous shooting mode. In addition to high-speed data transfer capability- the cards are highly reliable to protect users’ data and images. “These XQD cards give a whole new meaning to speed and performance.

XQD memory cards achieves stable continuous shooting of RAW images and blazing fast data transfer rates (up to 1Gbps; 125MB/s- write and read) through the PCIe*4 interface. A unique controller and optimised flash memory enables high-speed data processing- resulting in faster write speed and performance that can’t be achieved by conventional compact flash cards.

So, the 16GB card is worth between £82 and £125, depending on were you shop, and the card reader is worth around £50 – £65, i’m really pleased to get this free, as i was going to battle on with the Compact Flash cards i had for a while.

I’m going to get a chance to use this camera in the morning, but for the short time i got to look at it before the charge in the battery gave out, i’m buzzing about it.

It really feels like a new camera. I never bought into the Nikon D3s, as i felt it wasn’t a big change from my D3 cameras, but this thing, looks like they have really thought it through.

One of the many overlooked things that Nikon has done to this new model is they have filled the gap between the glass and the LCD with a gel to reduce reflections, improve the viewing angle and boost brightness and this could be important for professional photographers shooting in bright sun, not a massive problem in Ireland !!

I’ll put up some images from the D4 after i get to use it.

Nikon has just released their Metadata Creation tool called IPTC Manager. IPTC Preset Manager is used to enter IPTC presets for cameras that embed IPTC information.

“IPTC” stands for “International Press Telecommunications Council”.

You can download it HERE and you’ll need the latest version of Silverlight, which you can download HERE

IPTC (International Press Telecommunications Council) data can be automatically added to the images within the camera. In addition to input with a camera, it is possible to add information to a series of images at high speed to realize an even more efficient workflow by creating an IPTC file with IPTC Preset Manager, a software for IPTC preset registration (can be downloaded from Nikon’s website), and registering the file to a camera. Furthermore, the D4 incorporates a variety of communication functions to enhance the workflow speed.

So, below shows you how Nikon sees this piece of software fitting nto your workflow.

IPADS app style comes to Photoshop with PSKiss who recently released its PSKiss Photogram which is the first ever (at least as far as I’m aware) app like extension for Photoshop. It has all the coolness of an iPad app and it works on the desktop.

PSKiss Photogram is an extension so it installs like any extension and, when running, you see an iPad style interface with Instagram like features all running in a panel inside Photoshop.

Everything was shot on a D3 with a 24-70 (please hurry up D4 ) no remotes this time because of the weather

Sunday was The Festival of Colours at The Kings Hall, Belfast. What started out with small numbers, quickly grew chaotic closer to 3.30. Why 3.30 ? simple, that was when the Colour Party started, people with colours, fine powders smear them over friends, if you have falen out with someone, it’s a good time to make up and celebrate the start of spring.

There were no shortage of photographers, it was a great place to get pictures, lighting was good, and it wasn’t that difficult to get good images.

Just a few images from Paul McCloskeys Press Conference in the Europa Hotel, Belfast

He’s fighting after a full nights Boxing with Prizefighter on before it, i covered Prizefighter in London and it’s quick as each boxer only has 3 rounds to win and move on to the next round.
