This is my Lexar Card Reader usb 3.0 i’ve been using for quite a while now, and i’ve always found it good and reliable, until i started using it for my Nikon D4 images on my laptop. Either Photomechanic didn’t see the images or else it would open empty grey boxes, i tried Fotostation, Lightroom 3, Lightroom 4 and even Capture One, all had the same results. I was blaming Nikon, i was wrong, out of sheer desperation i plugged in a £5 Multi Card Reader.

Both of these readers are USB leads, so i have no idea why the £60 lexar card reader is having trouble, yet the £5 card reader is flying !
A while ago i used my D3 to wirelessly send pics Live at a Linfield Glentoran game at Windsor Park, in Belfast, it was a lot of fun, then for some reason i didn’t bother keeping up with this, it’s a no brainer as the ipad 2 battery life is amazing, and my son and i found the screen a great representation of what colours etc were relevant to that image.
One of the off putting things was if you go to EYEFI website the Nikon D3 is the ONLY camera they tell you will NOT work with their cards, although i got it working we noticed not every image we selected in camera was always transferred over to the ipad 2.
Well, i had a simple job to do for the Milk Cup the other day, and i thought no better time to start this all up again.
Time to call in the 15 Year old son, ( you know your getting old when your son fixes everything electrical) he found an SD to CompactFlash adaptor, then smashed half of the side off of it !

We found out that the compactflash adaptor have a metal piece on either side, and that is what sometimes interferes with the signal transmitting pictures.
Here is the other side of the adaptor where the EYEFI card slips in.

We kept the metal on one side, to try and keep some strength to the adaptor which is otherwise made of plastic.
So, the adaptor was £10, 2 cups of coffee and we ( ok, i mean Kyle) fixed it and where i took the group picture was under Shamrock Parks metal grandstand, and i made sure i was sending multiple e mails at the same time.

The image on the camera transferred in about 7-10 seconds, the graet thing about the eyefi card is you can set it to only send what you Tag in the camera. Imagine if you were shooting sports, it wouldn’t be able to cope with the huge bursts of shots, all trying to transfer at the same time. All you do is shoot, look and tag a few that you need to go across, and it’s there. I was able to do the pictures, and as i was setting up the next shot, the last photos were there waiting for me, i then showed them to the Milk Cup Chairman and Secretary, they picked what they liked and i e-mailed them to them on the spot, my job was done before i even put the camera gear back in the bag.
I hope this helps, i got a few shitty e mails from people the last time saying i didn’t explain how i got my pics into the ipad ipad2, it wasn’t a secret, just at the time i wrote that piece, i was still working out the bugs myself.
Ok, i hope this helps people, next thing i’m going to finalise this weekend is some kind of Ipad 2 Workflow, at sport to see if i can really replace my laptop at football, G.A.A or even Boxing Matches
