This Friday marks ten years since the death of the King Of The Roads, Joey Dunlop OBE (February 25, 1952 – July 2, 2000)

Joey was a world champion motorcyclist from Ballymoney in Northern Ireland, best known for road racing. Referred to throughout the sport as “Joey”, in 2005 he was voted the fifth greatest motorcycling icon ever by Motorcycle News. His achievements include three hat-tricks at the Isle of Man TT meeting (1985, 1988 and 2000), where he won a record 26 races in total. During his career he won the Ulster Grand Prix 24 times. In 1986 he won a fifth consecutive TT Formula One world title.

He was awarded the MBE in 1986 for his services to the sport, and in 1996 he was awarded the OBE for his humanitarian work for children in Romanian orphanages. Dunlop would often load up his race transporter and deliver clothing and food to the trouble spots of Bosnia and Romania. His humanitarian work was done without drawing attention to himself.

Joey Dunlop died in Tallinn, Estonia, in 2000 while leading a 125cc race (he had already won the 750cc and 600cc events). He appeared to lose control of his bike in the wet conditions and was killed instantly on impact with trees. As a mark of respect, the Estonian government’s official website was replaced with a tribute to Dunlop within hours of his death. Northern Ireland television carried live coverage of his funeral. Fifty thousand mourners, including bikers from all parts of Britain and Ireland and people from all backgrounds in N. Ireland, attended the funeral to Garryduff Presbyterian church and his burial in the adjoining graveyard.

Today i travelled to Joeys Bar to take some photographs of his wife Linda.

She had limited time, as most of my shoots do but was so helpful it made it a lot easier for me, as she went away and brought out one of Joeys race helmets !

That famous Yellow Arai helmet, what a thrill for a fan like me who grew up watching Joey on the T.V and being lucky enough to photograph him a few times to see one of these helmets again.

Just a quick upload from todays shoot in sunny Crawfordsburn ! Jenny Curran is the model from Allison Campbell Model Agency in Belfast.

Jenny is one of those people you just can’t help but instantly like, she’s really easy to work with which makes my job easier, not too many models would get into the ocean as quick as she did !

We took this shot while standing in the water myself, that’s how i know how cold it was, we brought in two lights both Quadra Rangers with nothing on one and a Tri-Grip -2 stops handheld diffuser on the main light and simply under exposed by 1 Stop to bring the red out more.

This may well be the most important behind-the-scenes video to date. Not because it’s fancy or sexy, but because it covers arguably the most essential information on a set of topics that every photo and video person should understand: workflow, storage and backup of your precious images. This video covers all the ins and outs, the theory and the details of our complete photo and video workflow from capture to archive and everything in between. So whether you’re a seasoned pro, an aspiring amateur, or just starting out in photography or video this is worth your time.

While there is no “right” digital workflow, Chases has been shaped in the professional environment over the past 10 years. More importantly the techniques he uses, the gear, the methodology, everything discussed herein been time tested and entirely scalable depending on budget, experience and where you’re at personally in photography and video, wheter you’ve got millions of images or just hundreds.

After the press Conference yesterday, Graeme had a party in Portrush, and i was lucky enought o be invited along to take exclusive pictures.

We were treated like kings, we were able to order whatever food and drink we wanted, most of the guys from BBC were there, a real good bunch of guys who i have a lot of time for.

I felt privileged to be allowed to share these moments with Graeme and his family and friends, finished work at 3.00am and back up at 7.00am to take the boys to school, so early night tonight.!

Graeme McDowell returned to his Golf Club in Portrush, Northern Ireland tonight, and it was chaos to say the least, as you can see from Matt Mackeys photo below.

Anyway, it’s 3.00am when i’m writing this so i’m off to bed and i’ll post some shots from the Party he had after !

Life is Very Good

Ireland’s new European champion Paddy Barnes  returned home today with his Gold medal to where it all began – the Holy Family Boxing Gym in North Belfast.
Fresh from his 4-1 defeat of Azerbaijan’s Elvin Mamishzade in the finals in Moscow, Paddy met with the media for interviews and photographs.

After the standard photos inside the gym, Paddy and i went for a walk ( with all my lights ! ) to a park close to his gym.
