“There is nothing that is a more certain sign of insanity than to do the same thing over and over and expect the results to be different ”

At yesterdays wedding of Billy Murays Son William when i reached the reception ( will not mention hotels name ! ) it was raining hard, so i set up some lights in an upstairs hall, started taking pictures of set groups that the Bride wanted and was confronted by the Manager, who didn’t want me to take pics there !

Being me, i ignored him and carried on. The next thing i know, he has sent the wedding organiser over who stood in front of my lights and was quite peeved i hadn’t moved.

” The manager wants you to move, he is worried about your background”

and heres the killer,

” No other Photographer has ever shot pictures hereĀ  “

So as a Photographer, was i not doing my job by supplying the bride with something different ? something Off the wall , but because other photographers who they knew who were doing 4 weddings a week didn’t see what i saw, then i’m in the wrong.

I worked for Sportsfile in Dublin and although you would not be fired for being wrong, you might have been fired for not having initiative, it had a positive attitutde to mistakes. It was and is a great Company.

I love trying different things in Photography, at least i’m growing as an artist.

But, I take pictures that don’t always turn out, maybe they aren’t the way i imagined them in my head, maybe it was a bad idea, but again at least i’m trying

Benjamin Franklin said, ” I Haven’t failed, I’ve had 10,000 ideas that didn’t work “

Theatre Director Joan Littlewood said, “If we don’t get lost, We’ll never find a new route”

All of these people understood that failures and false starts are a precondition of success.

So try something new !
